Usage
This test kit is used for stainless steel 303 identification. You can easily and quickly test whether your stainless steel (SS) is type 303 or type 304. If your stainless steel is type 303, the test gives a clear black discolouration. This discolouration is caused by the presence of sulphur in stainless steel 303. With 304 (or 316), the test remains white because it does not contain sulphur.
Detection of sulphur
This test can also be used for other types of metals for the detection of sulphur.
Difference between RVS 303 and RVS 304
Stainless steel 303 is very suitable for machining due to the addition of the element sulphur. However, sulphur does have an adverse effect on formability, weldability and corrosion resistance. RVS 304 (and 316) contains no sulphur. As a result, RVS 304 has good corrosion resistance and is easy to weld. Unlike stainless steel 303, stainless 304 is difficult to chip.
